We’ve just enjoyed our Open Day at the shop, and what a success it was! Beautiful weather, a great turnout from our local suppliers, and customers queuing up to taste their wares! Actually, as I write this, it hasn’t yet happened, so it’s a little bit tongue in cheek! But I’m sure that it will have been just as good as that, if not better.
If you’ve been to the shop recently, you’ll have seen our new floor, or at least I hope you have. I have to confess that my observation skills were a bit rusty the first time I visited the shop after the floor was laid, and it had to be pointed out to me! It was often children who noticed it straight away. I guess they’re closer! Anyway, if, like me, you need a gentle nudge to focus your gaze downwards, please take a look next time you are in there, and, whatever you think, please encourage us by saying you like it, whether you do or not!
I am somewhat vertically challenged, and getting something from a high shelf can be a bit of a problem. One time, when I had my walking pole with me, I was sorely tempted to wait for a quiet moment, and then, quick as a flash, hoik the desired object down with my pole! How mischievous that would be, but how much fun! But, and here’s the rub (to quote Shakespeare); what if someone appeared just at the moment? They could get hit by a flying tin of beans! And they might not see the funny side! That would not do. So, if you, like me, can’t reach an item easily, please ask for help. We have steps expressly for this purpose. Boring, and not so much fun, but safer. Which is quite important. Actually.
I have several requests to make this month. As I’ve said before, the shop runs on the hard work and commitment of an army of volunteers. We could really do with some more help now. We need volunteers happy to work in the shop and serve on an ad hoc basis, to fill the odd gap here and there to cover sickness and holidays. Our volunteers always come up trumps, but it can be tight, and we could always do with more help. The other very necessary job that absolutely has to be done is cleaning. Now everyone tells me that cleaning anywhere apart from your own home is good fun and enjoyable, a bit different. So, if you are part of this ‘everyone’ group of people, please talk to us about helping with this vital job. Many hands make light work, as the saying goes.
My last request is for help on Saturday 12th September, when we have to run both the shop and our stall at the Sheep Fair, which is a considerable challenge! So, all you wonderful volunteers, if you are around, please offer your services.
