What with one thing and another, I have had to send a number of important documents through the post this last month, and I’ve learnt to appreciate again how very lucky we are to have a post office no more than a stone’s throw away for most of us, right here in the middle of our village.  It makes life so much easier than if we had to go down to the Valley or into Worthing.  And what’s even better, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s open longer hours than any other PO in the country.  Now that would be an achievement worth shouting about!  I wonder whether ‘The Guinness Book of Records’ knows about us?

Anyway, I digress.  I meant to praise the PO’s services.  The Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed service lets you track your letter’s journey, see a photo of the recipient’s signature, and guarantees that it will get there by 1pm the following day.  That’s a remarkable achievement, especially given that I read in the news this morning that Royal Mail staff report that letters can sit undelivered ‘for weeks’, something we can all affirm.

Thank you so much to all the volunteers who have stepped up over the last couple of months, when some folks have been poorly, and others have escaped to warmer climes on holiday.  You are brilliant, and we appreciate you all!  And thank you as well to all our customers who have braved the wet and the cold to support us.  We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you.

Now, whilst we in this country hope for an end to this persistent rain, a blue sky, and some sun, a young lady by the name of Sophie has her sights on yet more wondrous charms; she is about to embark on a trip around Asia!  We will miss her in the shop on a Sunday morning, but wish her all the best on her travels.  Just don’t forget to come back to us afterwards!

With the signs of Spring popping up all around us, we decided that it really was the time to let go of the remains of our Christmas stock.  The Village Light Lunch were the beneficiaries of a panettone.  All I can say is, “Lucky, lucky them!”.  We donated everything else to a local foodbank, unfortunately a much-needed cause.  So, whilst some of us are giving up chocolate for Lent, there will be a number of youngsters opening an Easter Advent calendar chocolate every day!  Enjoy!

This month we celebrate Mother’s Day –hurrah, say I!  We have some lovely cards, chocolates and small gifts just waiting for you to give her.  Easter is in early April, so you’ll probably be planning it this month as well.  Do pop in and see the most-attractive displays Helen does, and all the goodies we have in stock.  Good times!
